I yoinked this from Ursula’s blog. Normally I don’t put a toe in the waters of political conversation, but this just weirded me out.
What a weird choice for the McCain campaign to insult gamers in this way…
I don’t think I’ve ever been so personally affronted by a politician before! This was probably a big mistake on his part.
Well, come on. The way those campaigns disparage his experiences keeping our country’s gold safe from orcs, what do you expect?
A big mistake? I wonder how many conservative gamers are actually put off by this. I think a larger portion of his constituency would see D&D as possibly unhealthy.
But at the same time, why pander to your base in a way that completely and totally alienates people who may or may not have been for you, but now are probably never going to be for you?
Oh it’s a mistake, I don’t doubt that. But I don’t think it’s going to hurt him that much.
If only he would learn from his own memories, he just might stop supporting torture.
As a patriotic, maternal-basement-dwelling American, I am insulted at the implication that I play D&D.
I may be oblivious to your political system and therefore prejudical here, but: Did that guy just mention a BLACK guy not paying enough respect to people that suffered (in war / history)?
“… but most Americans have the humility and gratitude to respect and learn from the memories of men who suffered on behalf of others.”
That sounds just a liiiittle bit ironic come to think how his government currently treats and has treated black minorities and war veterans. I bet more DnD players would bleed and fight for their home than those politicans (or their sons).
